PRODUCING WITH ABLETON (BASIC)

What do the mixed bag of producers like Daft Punk, Skrillex, Diplo, Calvin Harris, Fourtet, Jon Hopkins, Deadmau5, Bonobo, Flume, Netsky, Wolfgang Gartner and Singapore’s very own Myrne have in common? They and many more, from all realms of the electronic music spectrum, produce with Ableton Live. Are you a beginner, and want to learn how to make your own music or remixes? Or are you an experienced musician, and want to take your productions or performance to the next level?

 

By the end of this 12 hour course (split over 4 weeks), you will have completed your own original piece of music or remix.

•  Tips and tricks for using chord progressions in electronic music

Lesson 5: Audio effects

•  Classic effects: Filter, Overdrive, Delay & more

•  Unique Ableton Live effects: Frequency Shifter, Corpus, Resonators & more

Lesson 6: Automating effects

•  Automating effects to sculpt the sound of your song

Lesson 7: Arrangement

•  Structures for arranging common electronic music genres

•  Creating transitions and contrast

Lesson 8: Creating your unique sound

•  Introduction to synthesizers

•  Sourcing for additional instruments

Lesson 9: Basic Sampling

•  Chopping and playing samples in your song

•  Turning samples into beats

Lesson 10: Playing Live

•  Connecting pads and controllers

•  Jamming as a way of producing music

Lesson 11: Mixing and EQ

•  Mixing with pan, levels Basic EQ: shelving, adding air

ELECTRONIC MUSIC WITH ABLETON (ADVANCED)

By the end of this 12 hour course (split over 4 weeks), you will have acquired advanced skills to bring your music or remixes to the next level. This course is suitable for musicians who are already producing music on Ableton Live, or who have completed our course Basic Electronic Music Production with Ableton Live.

If you want customized lesson to learn specific music production skills in Ableton Live, we also provide individual Artist Consultation sessions, where you get personalized coaching from Ableton Certified Trainer Ben Ang, on the topics that you choose.

Week 1:

•  Ableton Live custom features and shortcuts

•  Ableton Live Packs and creating your own Packs

•  Introduction to Max for Live devices

•  Using MIDI Effects to boost your creativity


Week 2:

•  Music theory for electronic / electronic dance music

•  Circle of fifths, chord progressions, scales

•  Ableton Live music theory hacks – Scale, Chord

•  Using Ableton Live Audio Effects Rack and automation


Week 3

•  Music arrangement for electronic / electronic dance music

•  Creating transitions, contrast, dynamics, builds and drops

•  Using Ableton Live Instrument Rack for sound design

•  Sampling with Ableton Simpler and Sampler


Week 4

•  Using MIDI controllers (Launchpads) for music production

•  Adding punch with Compressor, Saturator, Transient Shapers, Sidechain compression

•  Finalizing your mix for release

•  Releasing your track – basics of music business, copyright, and music business law
